Teresa Barton - Managing Director
FMCA Accredited Family Mediator and Conflict Support Practitioner
Hello! I'm Teresa Barton, Founder of 2Mediate
I am an FMCA Accredited Family Mediator and Conflict Support Practitioner, dedicated to helping people navigate through challenging life events and disputes. With over 25 years of experience working with children, young people, and adults, I bring a wealth of knowledge and empathy to my role, ensuring that everyone feels heard and supported throughout the mediation process.
My Journey and Professional Background
Before founding 2Mediate, I worked in various roles at Citizens Advice and large housing corporations, where I developed a deep understanding of conflict resolution and the importance of finding workable solutions. My experience in law and senior national commercial roles has equipped me with a solid foundation in complex problem-solving and financial matters, such as property, pensions, investments, debt, and maintenance arrangements.
As a solo parent who often balanced multiple jobs, I understand firsthand the pressures of juggling work and parenting. I know the challenges of managing a busy family life, from school runs to after-school activities, and providing for your children. This experience has given me a unique perspective on the stresses that can lead to family conflicts and the importance of finding peaceful resolutions.
My Approach to Mediation
At 2Mediate, I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where families can openly communicate and work together to resolve their issues constructively. I believe that every family is unique, and I tailor my approach to suit your specific needs, always striving for long-term, positive outcomes. My work focuses on the well-being of all family members, especially children, ensuring they thrive in happy, secure environments.
I lead the "Room to Talk" program for a Thames Valley-wide mediation charity, a project that has even been featured on the BBC news. We work closely with families, child services, and various community organisations to reduce the harmful effects of conflict and promote peaceful understanding within families. I also deliver training programs for parents, schools, universities, and Thames Valley police, equipping them with the skills to handle conflict effectively.
What You Can Expect
The mediation process is designed to be flexible and tailored to your needs. When children are involved, they remain at the heart of any decisions made, and we ensure they have a voice in the process. From our initial 1:1 meeting, where we discuss your hopes and the best path forward, to developing creative solutions that courts might not offer, I'm here to guide you every step of the way.
A Bit About Me Outside of Work
When I'm not helping families find their way through conflict, you might find me running along the Thames, playing badminton at my local club, or walking across the Chilterns. I love spending time with friends and family, exploring art exhibitions, or enjoying the theater. Balance is vital in life, and I bring that philosophy into my work, aiming to help you find peace and a positive way through again.
Let's Work Together
I look forward to supporting you on your journey towards a better future, moving away from conflict and finding a more peaceful path forward. At 2Mediate, we believe in the power of mediation to transform lives and relationships, and I'm here to help guide you through that process with compassion and expertise.
